Job summary

The University in Belmont, CA is seeking an Assistant Controller to lead financial accounting, close processes, reporting, budgeting, and compliance. Reporting to the Controller, this role collaborates with Accounting, Payroll, HR, Financial Aid, and other departments to ensure accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP.

The position handles monthly close, reconciliations, payroll accounting, budgeting support, and audit assistance. Hybrid work location, full-time, Exempt status.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible accounting or financial experience.
• Experience with general ledger, journal entries, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting.
• Knowledge of U.S. GAAP, nonprofit accounting; higher education experience preferred.
• Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong organizational, communication, and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Own monthly and annual close including journal entries.
• Prepare reconciliations for balance sheet and income statement accounts.
• Record payroll, benefits, payroll taxes, deductions, and related liabilities; coordinate with Payroll and HR.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analyses.
• Assist with financial reporting, audits, and regulatory compliance.
• Maintain internal controls and collaborate with departments across the University.
