Montgomery Housing Authority is seeking an Assistant Comptroller to support the Comptroller in directing financial operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, budgeting, and HUD reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ten years accounting experience, with at least four years in public housing or governmental accounting.
• Thorough knowledge of general ledger accounting, debits/credits, reconciliations and internal controls.
• Working knowledge of HUD financial requirements and related regulations.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Office apps; familiarity with Yardi.
• Experience with budgeting, cash management, audit prep, financial analysis, and regulatory reporting.
• Ability to supervise staff, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication with discretion on confidential information.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Comptroller with accounts payable, payroll, purchasing and related finance functions.
• Review financial transactions for accuracy and compliance with internal controls.
• Maintain ledgers and monthly close activities; post journal entries and analyses.
• Coordinate monthly subsidy drawdowns, checks, transfers and banking activities.
• Assist with HUD submissions, reconciliations and supporting schedules.
• Lead staff supervision and maintain confidentiality in the Finance Department.
