Job summary

The State of Connecticut Judicial Branch in Hartford seeks a qualified attorney to assist the Chief Disciplinary Counsel in investigating and pursuing complaints against attorneys and allegations of unauthorized practice of law.

The successful candidate will review grievance records, participate in contested hearings, and make recommendations on dispositions to the statewide grievance committee or a reviewing committee, while supervising other disciplinary counsel and staff.

Qualifications

• Membership in the Connecticut Bar and nine (9) years of experience in the practice of law.
• Some private practice experience is preferred.
• Litigation experience is preferred.
• Two (2) years of experience as an Assistant Chief Disciplinary Counsel may be substituted for the General Experience.
• SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Incumbents may be required to travel in the course of their daily work.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Chief Disciplinary Counsel in investigating and pursuing complaints against attorneys and allegations of unauthorized practice of law.
• Review records of complaints from grievance panels where probable cause has been found, pursue matters at contested hearings before the statewide grievance committee or a reviewing committee, and make appropriate recommendations concerning dispositions.
• Handle other attorney disciplinary matters before the Superior Court, Appellate and Supreme Courts, and supervise other disciplinary counsel and lower-level employees.
