Job summary

Powell is seeking a Senior Assembler to oversee the assembly of switchgear and electrical equipment. You will coordinate the build process, read engineering drawings, and guide junior assemblers while addressing issues to ensure on-time delivery.

The role requires 4 years in manufacturing, the ability to read a tape measure, and basic English. You will work a Four 10s schedule (Mon-Thu 2:30pm-1:00am) in a safety-conscious environment.

Qualifications

• Requires high school or GED.
• 4 years of manufacturing experience.
• Ability to read a tape measure (fraction/decimal/mixed units).
• Basic English language proficiency (written and verbal).
• Knowledge of system software (Oracle, MES, True View) to lookup parts/drawings.
• Ability to safely use hand/power tools.
• Lift up to 50 lbs with proper technique.

Responsibilities

• Build and assemble mechanical components per drawings and specifications.
• Lead team members on ship prep and oversee assembly tasks.
• Provide training to junior assemblers and troubleshoot issues.
• Perform root cause analysis on engineering changes and correct discrepancies.
• Identify and track shortages; communicate with QA/QC and shipping.
• Perform in-process and final inspections; ensure quality per standard work.
• Lead a small team to complete assigned tasks; promote safety and maintain clean work areas.
• Maintain and adjust equipment to support assembly of switchgear and breakers.

Powell is an engineered to order manufacturer of switchgear and electrical equipment for the power generation industry. A Senior Assembler is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the assembly process of various products. A Senior Assembler may also provide guidance and training to junior assemblers, troubleshoot any assembly issues, and assist in the development and improvement of assembly procedures. They play a crucial role in maintaining a smooth assembly process and ensuring the overall quality of the finished products.

Essential Responsibilities

• Build and assemble mechanical components for Switchgear and/or Breaker units according to engineering drawings and customer specifications.
• Perform maintenance and proper use of tools.
• Perform in process inspections; ensure quality by following standard work instructions and identifying any potential risks to product quality.
• Lead team members on all aspects of ship prep
• Assist in training employees
• Perform Root Cause Analysis on engineering changes and correct discrepancies
• Identify and track shortages
• Assist in processing ship loose and communicate to QA/QC
• Lead a small team of employees to complete a specific task assigned by lead assembler and/or supervisor
• Perform final "in process inspections"
• Perform mechanical adjustments for switchgear and/or breakers
• Promote a safety culture as well as attend all safety meetings.
• Ensure that work areas remain clean and well organized.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum education level of a High School Diploma or General Education Equivalent Diploma is preferred.
• 4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
• Ability to read a tape measure (including conversions from fraction to decimal and conversely from decimal to fraction and metric to imperial).
• Must have a basic command of the English language, both written and verbal.
• Knowledge of system software (i.e. Oracle, MES, True View) to look up parts and drawings.
• Safely use variety of hand/power tools.
• Lift up to 50lbs using proper lifting techniques.

• Read and understand spec sheets and follow proper use of hardware by spec requirements.
• Advanced knowledge of single and three-line drawings, including symbols
• Ability to identify part discrepancies and properly write HFDs for corrections
• Knowledge of mechanical drawings and designs

Working & Environmental Conditions

Working Conditions

• Safety sensitive position in a temperature-controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.
• Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) (i.e., safety shoes, hard hats, bump caps, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses as required) and respirators when required.
• Must be able to work from all type of ladders (step ladders, "A" frame ladders, etc.)
• Working at heights usually no higher than 20 feet in the air on an elevated structure using proper lift equipment and Fall Protection Equipment.

Physical Requirements

• Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs or step ladders
• Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction
• Continuous standing and walking
• Able to use upper extremities frequently, work with both arms above shoulders and use both arms at full length frequently.
• Must be able to meet physical lifting demand up to 50lbs.
• Frequent use of hand tools and power tools
