Job summary

Powell is seeking a Lead Assembler to oversee and coordinate the assembly of switchgear and electrical equipment in a manufacturing setting. The role requires strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills to ensure on-time production and quality.

The successful candidate will mentor a team, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and collaborate with engineering and QA to meet production targets and safety standards. This is a full-time on-site position with a four-10s schedule.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• 8 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of Oracle, MES and True View to lookup parts/drawings.
• Lift up to 50 lbs using proper lifting techniques.

Responsibilities

• Train employees and assist in new training plans.
• Communicate and delegate daily priorities to the team.
• Release jobs to QA/QC and ensure timely completion.
• Lead/mentor 6S and continuous improvement projects (Kaizen).
• Lead quality initiatives and cross‑department coordination.
• Review BOM and drawings for issues and assist in hiring decisions.
• Track job efficiency and participate in performance evaluations.

Powell is an engineered to order manufacturer of switchgear and electrical equipment for the power generation industry. The Lead Assembler is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the assembly process of products in a manufacturing setting. Four 10s Schedule: Monday-Thursday 2:30pm-1:00am.

The Lead Assembler is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the assembly process of products in a manufacturing setting. Four 10s Schedule: Monday-Thursday 2:30pm-1:00am. The Lead Assembler is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the assembly process of products in a manufacturing setting. They supervise a team of assemblers, ensuring that production targets are met and quality standards are maintained. The Lead Assembler also assists in training new assemblers, troubleshooting assembly issues, and implementing process improvements. They collaborate with other departments, such as engineering and quality assurance, to ensure efficient and effective assembly operations. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role.

Essential Responsibilities

• Train employees; assist in new employee training plans
• Communicate and delegate daily priorities to other employees
• Release jobs to QA/QC
• Write purchase requisitions; order parts of GEXPRO
• Lead/Mentor 6S and continuous improvement projects, including Kaizen events
• Lead Quality Initiatives
• Communicate within department and with other departments to resolve issues and drive timely completion of jobs
• Review bill of materials and drawings for issues
• Assist in interviews and new hire selection
• Identify training needs for the group and help develop appropriate training plan
• Assist in tracking job efficiency and productivity
• Assist in employee evaluation process
• Communicate passdown information
• Lead Safety and Quality meetings
• Support the enforcement of Powell's policies and safety program

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum education level of a High School Diploma or General Education Equivalent Diploma is preferred.
• 8 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
• Knowledge of system software (i.e. Oracle, MES, True View) to look up parts and drawings.
• Lift up to 50lbs using proper lifting techniques.

Skills, Abilities & Other Requirements

• Ability to complete complex engineering changes.
• Read and understand spec sheets and follow proper use of hardware by spec requirements.
• Advanced knowledge of single and three-line drawings, including symbols
• Ability to identify part discrepancies and properly write HFDs for corrections
• Knowledge of mechanical drawings and designs
• Effectively demonstrates on-time delivery and the ability to stay focused on goals and responsibilities.

Working Conditions

• Safety sensitive position in a temperature-controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.
• Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) (i.e., safety shoes, hard hats, bump caps, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses as required) and respirators when required.
• Must be able to work from all type of ladders (step ladders, \"A\" frame ladders, etc.)
• Working at heights usually no higher than 20 feet in the air on an elevated structure using proper lift equipment and Fall Protection Equipment.

Physical Requirements

• Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs or step ladders
• Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction
• Continuous standing and walking
• Able to use upper extremities frequently, work with both arms above shoulders and use both arms at full length frequently.
• Must be able to meet physical lifting demand up to 50lbs.
• Frequent use of hand tools and power tools
