Description of Primary Duties

The Senior Art Exhibition ( SAE ) is an annual public affairs event hosted by the Gerontology Program that celebrates visual art created by adults age 60 and older. The SAE draws artists and attendees from across the Springfield region, featuring juried artwork, awards, and a public reception. The event is supported by community sponsors and engages students, faculty, and local organizations in meaningful intergenerational programming. The SAE Coordinator plays a key role in bringing this event to life, supporting everything from early marketing and community outreach to on-site event execution.

  • Coordinating venue logistics and communications with campus partners
  • Updating marketing materials including call for entries, poster, and reception invitation
  • Drafting and distributing a news release to media and community organizations
  • Managing the online entry form and artist communications
  • Conducting outreach to senior living communities and partner organizations
  • Assisting with on-site event activities including intake day and exhibition setup
  • Supporting website updates and digital communications

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program at Missouri State University
  • Background or coursework in marketing, communications, event planning, or a related field
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Self-starter who can manage multiple deadlines independently
  • Outgoing, personable, and comfortable interacting with community members, artists, and campus partners
  • Ability to work on-site as needed, particularly during key event dates in March
