Job summary

Hutker Architects in Boston seeks a Designer I to contribute to schematic design, construction documents, and client presentations for residential projects. You will collaborate with principals and the studio team to advance design objectives and ensure code compliance.

The role requires 1–5 years of residential design experience, strong CAD/BIM skills (Revit, AutoCAD) and proficient presentation abilities. You will work from our Boston studio location and grow within a design-led practice.

Qualifications

• 1-5 years of strong residential design experience and technical development
• Degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch) from an accredited program
• Experience with producing production documents and building code compliance
• Strong design and graphic presentation skills with BIM/CAD proficiency
• Must be able to work from our Boston studio location

Responsibilities

• Contribute to project design development, including schematic design, construction documents, and presentation packages
• Collaborate with the Principal-in-charge, Team Leader, and project team to establish design objectives, shape the project vision, and support the design process
• Provide project updates based on client feedback, ensuring structural and building code compliance
• Prepare working drawings for private residences and acquire measurements to produce existing conditions drawings
• Gain proficiency in wood frame construction and structural requirements
• Assist in developing project design criteria, schedules, and managing project timelines
• Update CAD drawings (plans, elevations, sections) based on redlines and client feedback
• Create architectural models using manual methods and 3D CAD software
• Participate in client meetings and construction observation/site visits as needed

We are seeking a Designer I who brings thoughtful innovation, high standards, and a passion for residential design. Working in close collaboration with principals and the studio team, this individual will contribute meaningfully to the design excellence that defines our work.

• Degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch) from an accredited program
• A genuine passion for residential architecture and a desire to specialize in this field
• Experience with producing production documents and building code compliance
• Strong design and graphic presentation skills with proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Photoshop, SketchUp, and Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to produce both manual and digital 3-D models
• Strong multitasking abilities, attention to details, and excellent communication skills
• Must be able to work from our Boston studio location

$65,000 - $83,000 a year

This represents the full salary range for the position. Placement within the range is based on experience and qualifications. New hires are typically placed within the lower to middle portion of the range, with opportunities for salary growth as they develop in the role and advance within the firm.
