We are currently seeking a Licensed Architect / Technical Director to join our team in Phoenix, AZ. This senior-level professional will bring 15+ years of experience and serve as a key leader responsible for the technical design and execution of both large and small-scale projects. The role requires a deep understanding of building systems, codes, and construction practices, as well as a strong ability to evaluate and develop solutions that align with the client’s goals and the firm’s design ethos.

As a core member of our leadership team, the Technical Director will champion design integrity and technical excellence across all project documentation. This role also includes mentoring emerging professionals and fostering a collaborative studio culture focused on continual learning and craft.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead and independently execute a wide range of project tasks across all phases—from conceptual design through construction—on projects of varying scale and complexity.
  • Oversee and coordinate the production of design and construction documents, ensuring alignment with design intent, budgets, and technical standards.
  • Prepare project specifications, evaluate materials, and support the design team in making informed technical decisions throughout the design process.
  • Collaborate with firm principals to establish project budgets and fee proposals; monitor team production hours and implement strategies to optimize efficiency.
  • Coordinate with estimators to track budgets and assist in the development of construction estimates from concept through final bid.
  • Review internal and consultant drawings for quality, consistency, and compliance with zoning, building codes, and firm standards.
  • Engage with clients and consultants, maintaining strong professional relationships and clear lines of communication.
  • Navigate municipal processes and approvals with a detailed understanding of zoning and building codes.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior staff; review and redline their work as needed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proven experience in developing detailed design and technical documentation for both commercial and high-end residential projects.
  • Deep knowledge of construction means and methods, zoning regulations, and building codes.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills; ability to guide teams and manage client expectations.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit/BIM, Bluebeam and modeling software; able to manage multiple projects and deadlines efficiently.
  • Self-directed and collaborative; excels in both independent and team settings.
