Job summary

SSOE is seeking a Senior Architect to lead design for pharmaceutical and life sciences facilities, including cGMP manufacturing suites, pilot plants, and research laboratories. You will guide multidisciplinary teams, ensure GMP and code compliance, and drive project delivery from concept through commissioning.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years in pharma/life sciences, RA license, and strong Revit skills, with a track record in design-build delivery and client-focused collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited program.
• Active Registered Architect (RA) license in good standing within the U.S., with reciprocity as needed.
• 10+ years of architectural experience focused on pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or life sciences facilities including GMP manufacturing, lab, or pilot plant design.
• Experience leading internal design teams through all project phases in a design-build delivery model.
• Deep understanding of cGMP regulations, ISPE Baseline Guides, and their impact on architectural design and finishes.
• Proficiency in Revit and BIM workflows; knowledge of AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam desired.

Responsibilities

• Lead architectural design and planning for complex pharmaceutical and life sciences projects (cGMP suites, labs, QC/QA labs, R&D labs, and related facilities).
• Provide technical leadership and ensure coordinated CD sets meeting GMP, FDA guidance, and standards.
• Collaborate with engineering disciplines for holistic coordination and constructability in GMP environments.
• Interpret and apply codes (IBC, IEBC, IFC, IMC, NFPA 101/45/30/400, ADA/ABA) for lab and production occupancies.
• Oversee peer reviews, QA/QC checks, and constructability reviews focused on GMP compliance and cleanroom detailing.
• Mentor junior architects and staff; stay current with GMP regulations and trends (ATMPs, continuous manufacturing).
