Job summary

The Smithsonian Institution seeks a licensed Architect to coordinate with lead architects and engineers to deliver large-scale projects in the nation’s capital. You will lead a project team, develop design work plans, and secure approvals on scope, budget, and schedule.

This role requires advancing construction documentation, guiding cross-discipline coordination, and managing contracts from planning through construction administration.

Qualifications

• Degree in architecture or related field with 60 semester hours in architecture, including 30 hours in architectural design and 6 hours in each of: structural technology, materials and methods of construction, environmental control systems.
• Combination of education and experience that furnishes knowledge and abilities substantially equivalent to the required courses and demonstrates understanding of architectural principles and their applications.
• Applicants must meet basic qualification requirements per the OPM Qualification Standards Handbook; transcripts required and foreign education instructions provided.

Responsibilities

• Participate with Institution staff in determining project needs.
• Lead a project team of professional architects, engineers, and other staff assigned to a project.
• Prepare and maintain design project work plan and schedule.
• Solicit approvals on a design project scope, budget and schedule.
• Assess the effectiveness of contractors in meeting contract requirements.
