Remote - Cultural Resource Manager/Archaeologist

Responsibilities

You will assist a federal agency in executing its cultural, historic, archaeological, and environmental program and complying with federal and state laws and regulations, such as the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and others. Strong communication skills, a demonstrated ability to deliver innovative solutions, a sound understanding of required laws and processes, and creative problem-solving acumen are critical success factors.

Representative Responsibilities
  • Support environmental and project teams in ensuring regulatory compliance for assigned projects and programs;
  • Review technical reports for compliance with DHS/CBP and other federal policies and directives;
  • Provide management and technical oversight of cultural tasks, including archaeological investigations and reporting;
  • Oversee field survey methods, schedules, execution, reports, and coordination with state, federal, and tribal representatives;
  • Oversee BMP development, implementation, and corrective measures;
  • Coordinate with Project Managers on BMP implementation during construction and project execution, providing status reports as needed;
  • Track progress of requirements until completion, ensuring schedules are updated and documents are entered into tracking systems (e.g., FITT and TRIRIGA);
  • Consult with State Historic Preservation Offices and Tribal Historic Officers to fulfill compliance under Section 106 of the NHPA;
  • Update team and processes based on regulation changes and agency protocols;
  • Attend project review meetings and site visits;
  • This position may require working independently or with limited supervision.
Qualifications
  • M.S. or M.A. in archaeology, anthropology, or a closely related field;
  • Meets the Secretary of the Interior’s professional standards for archaeology or anthropology;
  • At least one year of full-time professional experience or equivalent specialized training in archaeological research, administration, or management;
  • Experience in cultural resource management and knowledge of state and federal regulations, including Section 106 and historic preservation statutes;
  • Field experience developing survey methodologies and conducting/directing surveys; experience as a primary investigator is a plus;
  • Ability to synthesize archaeological data from field studies;
  • Proficiency with compliance procedures under Section 106 of the NHPA;

Ability to pass a government background investigation, including checks related to financial, criminal, residential, educational, foreign affiliation, prohibited substance use, and employment verifications. Active U.S. Customs and Border Protection background investigation preferred. Only U.S. citizens are eligible for a suitability determination.

Target salary range: $71,000 - $125,000.
