Job summary

The Johnson County Park and Recreation District (JCPRD) is seeking an Aquatics Program Supervisor to lead lifeguard teams, manage facilities, and ensure safe, high-quality programs across Shawnee Mission facilities.

With a focus on staffing, training, budgeting, and community partnerships, this role guides seasonal staff and coordinates program marketing, while upholding the district’s commitment to excellence and public service.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in recreation or related field.
• American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months.
• Two-year supervisory experience.
• Two-year recreation programming experience.
• One year facility management experience.
• Certified Pool Operator or Aquatics Facility Operator Certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Aquatics point person in the absence of the Aquatics Manager.
• Provides support to the Aquatics Manager and staff.
• Oversees interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of part-time and seasonal staff.
• Leads and trains Aquatic Coordinators, Aquatic Leads, and seasonal staff to ensure policies and safety.
• Oversees aquatic facilities (Shawnee Mission School District Aquatic Center; Kill Creek Park and Shawnee Mission Park beaches/marinas).
• Oversees program areas and fiscal viability of programs.
• Coordinates marketing of programs (website, social media, etc.).
• Assists in operating budgets for aquatic facilities and programming.
• Oversees staff training for lifeguard in-services and online training for policies.
• Ensures proper cash handling procedures and daily revenue balance.
• Assists with instruction of American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Courses.
• Develops relationships with community organizations to promote district programs.
