Job summary

Monterey Bay Aquarium seeks a Senior Aquaculture Program Manager to lead the development and implementation of sustainable aquaculture strategies, overseeing the Seafood Watch Assessment and Verification Platform and coordinating with global partners. This role guides scientific research, governance, and program integration across teams in a remote or Monterey-based setting.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in marine or environmental sciences
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in aquaculture
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in managing research projects
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and project tracking
  • Demonstration of competent writing skills
  • Demonstration of competent data management systems
  • Knowledge of data management and research integrity best practices
  • Strong organization, communication, facilitation, and active listening skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively among a diversity of team structures and dynamics
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, staff, and external audiences
  • Extensive travel is required, domestically and internationally
  • Ability to design and facilitate workshops, meetings, and presentations across cultures and sectors
  • Ability to work within Monterey Bay Aquarium's Core Values
  • Position can be remote or based in Monterey, California

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of aquaculture scientists to implement and improve Seafood Watch Platform processes.
  • Oversee the work of staff and contractors conducting Seafood Watch aquaculture assessments.
  • Conduct training of new staff and contractors for consistent quality.
  • Develop annual work plans for prioritizing assessments with Global Ocean Conservation Teams.
  • Design remediation processes and collaborate with stakeholders to improve uptake of findings.
  • Act as senior scientific advisor for aquaculture research projects and align with MBA protocols.
