Job summary

Reddit is seeking a Senior Staff Applied Scientist for the Science Platform to lead scientific direction in agentic analytics, causal inference, and forecasting. This role turns research advances into reliable production capabilities used company-wide.

You will own the implementation of methods in production Python, partner with engineers and data scientists to build an analytics agent, and translate analytical needs into accessible platform capabilities with clear uncertainty communication.

Qualifications

• Doctorate in Statistics, Economics, CS, Applied Mathematics, OR or related field; or Master’s with comparable depth.
• Eight+ years of industry work post-PhD, or ten years with a Master’s.
• Deep knowledge of statistical inference and econometrics; experience with causal methods for observational data.
• Experience developing and deploying forecasting systems with time series modelling and forecast validation.
• Strong software engineering skills; production Python software; API design, testing, version control, monitoring.
• Ability to critically assess literature, reproduce findings, and turn methods into reliable software.
• Experience developing LLM applications or analytical agents and evaluating their outputs.
• Clear communication of statistical assumptions, uncertainty, and tradeoffs.

Responsibilities

• Define the scientific roadmap for agentic analytics, causal inference and forecasting at Reddit.
• Research, evaluate, and implement new methods; turn research into prototypes and production capabilities.
• Design and build analytics agent architecture, data workflows, and reproducible results.
• Build reusable causal inference tools to estimate effects of product changes using observational data.
• Develop shared forecasting capabilities for business metrics, including probabilistic and hierarchical forecasts.
• Create evaluation frameworks and benchmarks to detect methodological errors and unsupported interpretations.
• Own production implementation of scientific methods in Python and collaborate on libraries and data pipelines.
• Collaborate with data scientists and engineers to identify recurring analytical needs and translate them into platform features.
• Mentor scientists and engineers; guide cross-team collaboration and communicate advances.
