Job summary

Yahoo Mail's Mail Intelligence team seeks an Applied ML Researcher to bridge theoretical innovation and production-grade execution. You will shape large-scale NLP and generative models for email data, using LoRA, distillation, and tool-enabled agent workflows with a focus on low latency.

You will shepherd research from concept to production, mentor engineers, and collaborate across teams to deliver impactful AI solutions at scale.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master's in CS/ML/NLP preferred.
• 9+ years hands-on ML/DL field experience, esp. NLP and generative models.
• Fine-tuning LLMs with LoRA or similar methods for production.
• Experience with distillation, compression, and small-model training.
• Develop pseudo-labeling and synthetic data workflows for high-quality data.

Responsibilities

• Lead R&D for deep learning and generative AI on large-scale email data.
• Advance model fine-tuning and quantization-aware training techniques.
• Design distillation to produce high-performance, low-latency models.
• Create robust evaluation frameworks and AI governance practices.
• Build scalable training/evaluation pipelines for production environments.
• Integrate AI tools and workflows to accelerate research and prototyping.
• Set directions for agent-based systems and multi-agent reasoning.
