Job summary

Flock Freight is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Applied AI to help the company adopt AI with measurable business impact. This hands-on, forward-deployed role embeds with teams, identifies high-value workflows, and builds AI-powered agents and copilots that integrate into daily work.

The role focuses on delivering end-to-end AI solutions, from discovery to production adoption, and scaling reusable patterns across the organization. Hybrid work is available in the San Diego/Encinitas area.

Qualifications

• 3 to 5+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 1 year delivering applied AI, ML, or intelligent automation in production.
• Hands-on experience with large language models (LLMs) such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, or similar, including prompt engineering, RAG, function and tool calling, evaluations, and agentic patterns.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including system design, and the ability to ship reliable production applications at high velocity.
• Strong proficiency in Python and experience with APIs, data pipelines, integrations, and cloud-based architectures.
• Experience with Git and GitHub workflows, CI/CD, observability, and modern development practices.

Responsibilities

• Embed with business and operational teams to understand goals, workflows and constraints, then identify AI opportunities with measurable impact.
• Translate problems into hypotheses, prototypes, production plans and success metrics.
• Own delivery end to end, including design, implementation, rollout, reliability and iteration.
• Build AI agents, copilots and automations, and connect capabilities to enterprise data and systems.
