Job summary

COMSOL, Inc. in Burlington, MA seeks a Senior Applications Engineer to create clear simulation examples for customers in heat transfer and fluid flow. You will model customer applications with COMSOL Multiphysics, and present features in web-based workshops and events across North and South America.

You will lead training on Fluid Flow and heat transfer, mentor new engineers, and collaborate with sales and support teams to grow mult physics opportunities.

Qualifications

• PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• 1 year of research experience in numerical modeling (FEM/FVM/DEM) or related areas.
• 2 peer reviewed journals in computational modeling / numerical fluid mechanics.
• Experience with CAD and commercial numerical simulation software.

Senior Applications Engineer (Multiple Openings)

Duties: Build clear and understandable simulation examples for prospective customers on simulations of their applications, primarily in the field of heat transfer and fluid flow. Support prospective customers in the modeling of their applications with COMSOL Multiphysics. Utilize COMSOL software to summarize its features in web-based workshops and other marketing and sales events, along with customer meetings. Support customers in using COMSOL software for their heat transfer, fluid flow and chemical species transport applications, along with a variety of Multiphysics applications involving other engineering disciplines. Initiate and participate in subsequent sales opportunities to existing customers or colleagues and other departments of existing customers. Develop technical and simulation knowledge and abilities through working with sales and support cases both independently and in cooperation with other sales and applications engineers. Lead introductory training courses along with Fluid Flow, heat transfer and related courses. Develop and mentor new Applications Engineers, Technical Account Managers, and Sales Engineers on the COMSOL software and its uses in certain application areas. Participate in COMSOL-sponsored events and activities in North and South America.

Requirements: Requires PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field of study, and 1 year of research experience in any job title/occupation/position involving modeling based on numerical methods, such as the finite element method, finite volume method, Electrohydrodynamics (EHD) or similar. Requires each of the following: experience with commercial work related to numerical simulations (FEM/FVM/DEM), Computer Aided Design or related; coursework in at least 3 or more of the following areas: Numerical Methods, Computational Fluid Mechanics, Advanced-level Fluid Mechanics, Heat transfer/Thermodynamics, or equivalent; and 2 peer reviewed journals in the field of computational modeling / numerical modeling of fluid mechanics, EHD or its equivalent. Requires 5% domestic and international travel to client sites to run COMSOL-sponsored events and activities in North and South America.
