Job description

We are seeking a Senior P&C Application Engineer to support and enhance the core applications powering our Property & Casualty insurance business.

This is a hands-on technical role combining advanced SQL development, enterprise application configuration, production support, integrations, and project work. You will work closely with business users, technology teams, and third-party software vendors to support our current policy administration and document management platforms while also helping prepare for the implementation of a future policy administration solution.

This is not a traditional full-stack software engineering position. The strongest candidates will be technically versatile application specialists who are comfortable working directly with databases, configuring enterprise SaaS applications, troubleshooting production issues, and translating business needs into technical solutions.

What You'll Be Responsible For:

SQL Development & Data Support

• Write complex SQL queries to investigate application and data issues.
• Develop and maintain stored procedures and SQL-based extracts.
• Support reporting and operational data requests.
• Troubleshoot data discrepancies and production issues.
• Work with SQL-driven reporting tools, including Microsoft Report Builder.
• Support existing database functions and triggers when needed.

P&C Application Support & Configuration

• Support and configure enterprise applications used by the Property & Casualty business.
• Manage application configuration, workflows, user access, business rules, and system settings.
• Troubleshoot application issues and determine whether problems are related to configuration, data, integrations, or vendor-supported functionality.
• Support business users across policy administration and related insurance workflows.
• Assist with onboarding and offboarding users within supported applications.
• Maintain clear documentation of application configurations, processes, changes, and troubleshooting procedures.

Integrations & File Processing

• Monitor and troubleshoot integrations and file transfers between enterprise systems and external partners.
• Investigate failed or delayed file-processing jobs and coordinate resolution with internal technical teams and vendors.
• Support financially sensitive and business-critical data exchanges.
• Assist with API and system-to-system integration work as the application environment evolves.

Projects & Platform Modernization

• Participate in projects involving application enhancements, new functionality, business expansion, and system changes.
• Support the evaluation and eventual implementation of a new P&C policy administration platform.
• Assist with configuration, data migration, testing, reconciliation, UAT, go-live, and production support.
• Work within Jira and ServiceNow environments to manage tickets, enhancements, defects, and project work.
• Participate in controlled production deployments and occasional after-hours implementation activities.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work directly with business users to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Partner with infrastructure, production operations, file transfer, application services, and other technology teams.
• Coordinate directly with third-party application vendors to troubleshoot issues and implement changes.
• Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

• Strong SQL development experience, including complex queries and stored procedures.
• Experience supporting, configuring, or administering enterprise SaaS or business-critical applications.
• Experience troubleshooting production application and data issues.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with both business and technical stakeholders.
• Experience working with third-party software vendors and coordinating technical issue resolution.
• Experience working within structured ticketing, change-management, and production-support environments.
• Experience within Property & Casualty insurance or another insurance environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with a P&C policy administration system such as Insurity/WCXP, Guidewire, Duck Creek, Majesco, OneShield, BriteCore, or a comparable platform.
• Experience supporting hosted insurance applications.
• Experience with Microsoft Report Builder or other SQL-driven reporting tools.
• Experience with REST APIs, integrations, or system-to-system data exchanges.
• Exposure to C#/.NET or another modern programming language.
• Experience supporting an application implementation, migration, or major platform conversion.
• Experience with Jira and/or ServiceNow.
• Familiarity with Git, CI/CD, or modern software development practices.
• Basic familiarity with AI tools and prompt-based AI solutions.

You should be comfortable moving between SQL, application configuration, production troubleshooting, business requirements, vendor conversations, and project work. You do not need to be a dedicated full-stack developer or AI engineer, but additional development and integration skills will give you opportunities to contribute to projects across the broader Application Services organization.
