Job summary

Workday is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the API Platform team within Product Engineering. You will lead design and development of high-throughput, low-latency APIs, backend services, and frameworks supporting Workday’s next-generation products and AI-driven scenarios.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in software development, 5+ years in object-oriented modeling and software design, and 4+ years designing scalable APIs.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development experience with 5+ years in object-oriented modeling and software design.
• 4+ years designing scalable APIs.
• Proficiency in Python and TypeScript.
• Experience with REST, GraphQL, SOAP, OpenAPI, and domain-driven design.
• Strong testing, code quality, and technical documentation skills.
• Experience with AI-assisted tools and agent integration models is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of high-throughput, low-latency APIs, backend services, and frameworks.
• Shape API architecture, drive performance improvements, and ensure scalable, reliable API standards.
• Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with internal teams across divisions.
• Translate product requirements into service boundaries and design API endpoints.
• Implement observability features and contribute to large-scale systems with high availability.
