Job summary

U.S. Bank is seeking an experienced engineer to lead API governance and architecture across enterprise environments. You will design, implement and oversee API standards, lifecycle controls, and security practices while coaching developers and enabling teams to adopt best practices.

The role requires strong knowledge of REST APIs, OpenAPI, and API management platforms, plus experience in regulated financial services, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• Five to six years of relevant experience.
• Strong knowledge of REST APIs, OpenAPI Specifications, API Lifecycle Management, API Versioning, Authentication, Authorization, and Error Handling Standards.
• Experience defining and implementing API standards, design guidelines, governance frameworks, and lifecycle controls across enterprise environments.
• Proven ability to drive adoption of technical standards through developer coaching, consultation, workshops, and enablement programs.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, operate, and maintain API-centric products.
• Own full stack delivery with production-ready code.
• Create designs prioritizing scalability, reliability, and performance.
• Analyze failures, propose design changes, and drive operational improvements.
• Ensure security, privacy, and regulatory compliance in development work.
• Review code and provide guidance on engineering best practices.
• Lead architecture governance and engineering standards adoption across teams.
