Job summary

Element Fleet Management is hiring a Senior Backend Integration Engineer in San Francisco to design, build, and maintain the API gateway and integration layer for Element Pay and external systems. You will own secure authentication, cross-service communication, caching, and event delivery, while mentoring teammates and shaping engineering standards.

The role emphasizes scalable, observable services and collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

6+ years of backend engineering with distributed systems or infrastructure.
Proficient in TypeScript (Node.js) and/or Go; capable in both.
Production experience with GraphQL and/or gRPC and service-contract design.

Responsibilities

Architect and build the API gateway for Element Pay and integration layer.
Design interfaces using GraphQL schemas and gRPC contracts for internal and external systems.
Own authentication/authorization, including token issuance, session handling, and SSO integrations.
Design and operate caching and outbound notification capabilities to ensure performance and reliability.
Develop automated tests and instrument services with metrics, traces, logs, and alerts.
Provide technical direction and mentoring in the integration domain.
Resolve production issues and establish reusable patterns for authentication, communication, and observability.
