Job summary

M&T Bank is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and support Java-based backend APIs and services for its Core Banking APIs. You will help modernize the bank's API ecosystem, contribute to cloud migrations, and collaborate with multiple product areas to deliver scalable, secure services.

Strong Java/Spring Boot expertise and cloud experience are required. You’ll participate in SDLC activities, review code, and mentor teammates while advancing enterprise API capabilities.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of systems analysis and/or application development experience, or
• Bachelor's degree plus 3+ years of systems analysis and/or development work
• Advanced proficiency in at least one programming language
• Experience backend development using Java or a similar OO language
• Experience with Spring Boot and API-driven architectures

Responsibilities

• Write clean, resilient Java code within the SDLC to solve business needs.
• Design and support Java-based backend APIs and services.
• Build API-driven integrations between internal apps and downstream systems.
• Develop new API capabilities and evolve existing services for business needs.
• Review pull requests and ensure secure, compliant changes.
