Job summary

The City of Westminster is seeking an Animal Management Officer/Senior Animal Management Officer to enforce city ordinances and state laws related to animal care and control. This safety-sensitive role requires strong observational skills, good judgment, and the ability to work with the public and other agencies.

Responsibilities include responding to animal-related calls, investigations, issuing warnings and citations, capturing and transporting animals, and testifying in court.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age.
• Graduation from high school or GED.
• Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
• Six (6) months of animal handling experience.
• Senior position requires three years as full-time animal management/officer.
• Senior position requires additional certifications in animal control field.

Responsibilities

• Enforce animal management ordinances and investigate citizen complaints.
• Detain and control animals including livestock, exotic, and wildlife.
• Prepare effective written reports and citations; maintain logs.
• Communicate with the public and provide appropriate referrals and education.
• Testify in civil and criminal court on behalf of the department.
