Job summary

Speechify is seeking a hands-on Team Lead for Android Core Product in Chattanooga, TN. You will own major features end to end, write and review code, and ensure reliable releases for our leading text-to-speech Android app.

You will collaborate with Design and Engineering, push for architectural improvements, and mentor engineers while delivering impactful user-facing enhancements at scale.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including time leading a team or owning a major surface while staying hands-on.
• Proven expertise in Kotlin-based Android development and modern architecture principles.
• Strong familiarity with MVVM, Clean Architecture, and Jetpack libraries.
• Experience shipping and maintaining long-running background work and audio features.
• Ability to drive quality through tests, reviews, and automation tooling.
• Track record of delivering impactful features used by teams externally and internally.
• Comfort with introducing improvements and managing change across teams.

Responsibilities

• Own major features end to end, from design through release.
• Maintain and improve reliability metrics for key features.
• Review pull requests and provide constructive feedback.
• Unblock the team and ensure focus on critical work.
• Drive version consolidation and reuse across the codebase.
• Lead process improvements and guide team on new approaches.
• Reduce manual steps to a reliable nightly release build.
• Address recurring problems with underlying setup changes.
• Shift verification left with automated checks for QA.
• Plan sprints to prioritize decisions and reduce ambiguity.
• Estimate effort and coordinate with Product, Design, and Engineering.
• Handle critical issues and own feature releases for nightly QA.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide learning opportunities.
