Job summary

Lyft is seeking an experienced Android-tools engineer for its Mobile Tooling team in San Francisco. You will build and maintain mobile build and release infrastructure used by hundreds of engineers, ensuring fast, reliable, and delightful developer experiences.

Lead projects end-to-end, collaborate across teams, and drive architectural reviews for performance, security, and maintainability. Strong Kotlin, Bazel, and CI expertise are essential, with a bonus for AI-related tooling.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience supporting large Android builds; Bazel is a bonus.
• Experience building command-line tools using Python or Bash.
• Experience maintaining a high-performance CI pipeline.
• Strong knowledge of Kotlin; Jetpack Compose is a bonus.
• Deep understanding of native mobile testing practices.
• Worked on and shipped large-scale Android apps or infra.
• Collaborative with cross-functional teams; strong ownership.
• Experience guiding teams through planning, prioritization, and execution.
• Bonus: open-source projects or AI/tools to enhance productivity.

Responsibilities

• Work within the Mobile Tooling team to create and maintain mobile build and release infrastructure for hundreds of engineers.
• Lead projects end-to-end with cross-functional alignment and stakeholder buy-in.
• Analyze systems to identify improvements, plan projects, and drive estimations.
• Contribute to source code and stay current with Android and industry developments.
• Prototype and implement tools to scale infrastructure, including Bazel remote execution.
• Build mobile AI workflows to boost developer productivity and migration efficiency.
• Maintain Android Studio, Android versions, and 3rd-party libraries.
• Write high-quality, tested, maintainable code and triage issues.
• Share knowledge via talks, code reviews, and engineering best practices.
