Job summary

Waymo seeks an experienced Android System Software Engineer to develop the IVI platform on a next-generation system-on-chip. This role requires a strong foundation in low-level OS, embedded software, and proactive validation to ensure hardware meets critical software performance requirements.

You will work with the Onboard Infrastructure team to bring up, port, and optimize Linux and AOSP components, implement HALs, and drive system performance across boot, scheduling, and power management while

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field.
• 3+ years of professional software development with embedded systems or OS development.
• Strong knowledge of Linux kernel, device drivers, IPC, and scheduling.
• Ability to read hardware specs and translate to software requirements.
• Proficiency in C/C++ and scripting (Python/Shell).
• Hands-on experience with Android OS development and AOSP, including HALs and debugging tools.
• Adaptive, proactive problem-solver in evolving specification environments.

Responsibilities

• System bring-up and integration during hardware bring-up phases.
• Customize, optimize, and debug the Linux kernel and AOSP for the SOC.
• Develop and maintain Vendor HALs to interface hardware with Android framework.
• Drive system-level performance optimization including boot time and power efficiency.
• Clarify requirements and stabilize interfaces for evolving internal features.
