Job summary

Versaterm, a leading public safety software provider, is seeking a Staff Software Engineer focusing on Android development. You will guide a team of Android engineers, architect complex mobile apps, and integrate with backend services to support a robust, offline-capable experience for public safety workflows.

You will lead architecture, drive code quality, mentor engineers, and work with hardware peripherals and AI-enabled tooling to improve product outcomes.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience and training.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in Android development, including leading or acting as a technical lead.
• Proficiency in Kotlin with Jetpack libraries such as CameraX and Compose.
• Solid understanding of asynchronous and reactive programming (Flows, RxJava).
• Familiarity with Firebase (Cloud Messaging, Crashlytics).
• Experience with REST/WebRTC integrations and offline-first adaptation.
• Exposure to CI/CD tools like GitHub or GitLab.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic guidance and mentorship to Android engineers, fostering innovation and code quality.
• Lead design and architecture of complex Android apps for scalability and performance.
• Implement and utilize robotics to assist the public safety mission (drones and body-worn cameras).
• Collaborate with partners to align technical solutions with business goals.
• Integrate with backend services via REST and WebRTC while maintaining offline-first capabilities.
• Accommodate diverse hardware configurations, from smartphones to headless devices.
• Stay current with Android platform changes and dependency upgrades.
• Oversee CI/CD pipelines and release processes for automation and tooling.
• Document app architecture and development standards.
