Job summary

NHS Jobs is seeking a Senior Anatomical Pathology Technologist to support autopsy services and coordinate post‑mortem activities. The role involves liaising with the pathology team, coroner service and bereavement services to ensure smooth operations and adherence to standards.

The post includes an on‑call rota, viewing paediatric cases, Home Office post mortems, and managing the release and identification of bodies. Travel across county may be required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in arranging autopsies and liaise with Chief Anatomical Pathology Technician, Consultant Histopathologists, Medical Secretaries, Medical Staff, HM Coroner, Coroners Officer and Bereavement Services.
• Participate in the on-call rota providing an out of hours service (viewings including paediatric, Home Office post mortems, reception and release of bodies, formal identification of bodies).
• Supervise APTs in all duties associated with the preparation of the deceased prior to, during and subsequent to post mortem examinations.
• Participate in the viewing service (including foetuses, babies and children) and provide professional advice following sudden death.
• Assist with tissue/organ retention issues for current autopsies and monitor capacity across sites.
