Job summary

Empathy Talent is looking for a Senior Analytics Engineer to own the data foundation behind a customer-facing analytics platform. You will define the canonical tables, columns, and metrics, migrate logic into governed dbt models, and ensure reliable, scalable analytics across BI and AI interfaces.

You will partner with Product, Engineering, Application Platform, and Infrastructure teams to standardize core metrics, improve data quality, and build a Kimball-style data warehouse that supports

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience with a modern data stack.
• Advanced SQL skills with hands-on dbt: modeling, testing, macros, architecture.
• Production-quality Python and version control/CI/CD.
• Diagnosing data and pipeline failures end-to-end.
• Strong understanding of dimensional data modeling (Kimball) and slowly changing dimensions.
• Experience with BigQuery and cloud data warehousing, including performance/cost optimization.
• Comfort designing data models that evolve with a growing product/business.
• Cross-functional collaboration with Engineering, Product, Infrastructure, and Platform teams.
• Ability to work in a fast-moving environment with strong ownership and judgment.

Responsibilities

• Design and own the analytics semantic layer with canonical tables, columns, and metrics behind customer-facing reports.
• Standardize definitions for core metrics and reconcile data across sources; document variances.
• Migrate production reporting logic into governed, tested, portable dbt models.
• Strengthen dbt test coverage; develop reusable macros and modeling patterns.
• Improve reliability of pipelines through monitoring, alerting, and resilience to schema changes.
• Collaborate with customers and internal teams on data quality, environment launches, onboarding, and data-handling requirements.
• Contribute to design of a Kimball-style dimensional data warehouse for BI and AI analytics.
• Assist migration of existing BI reporting onto the semantic layer; manage inventory, classification, validation, cutover.
