Job summary

Newsela is seeking a Senior Analytics Engineer (Contractor) to join our Internal Data Team remotely from Argentina. The role focuses on applying data engineering practices to analytics code to transform, test, and document data for end users.

You will build and maintain data models, optimize SQL, and provide expert reviews and mentorship while delivering business insights and data visualizations to stakeholders. The ideal candidate has 8+ years of data experience and a strong SQL/Python toolkit.

Qualifications

• 8+ years experience working with data in a software environment.
• Mastered proficiency in SQL and Python; advanced experience with data tooling and integrity testing frameworks; dbt orchestration.
• Autonomous, proactive with deep domain knowledge of data systems.
• Experience with cloud infra and relational datastores; DAG tooling like Dagster or Airflow; Tableau.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain composable data models and optimize SQL for the models.
• Transform raw data into business insights and prepare clean data sets for end users.
• Provide expert code reviews and mentorship to other engineers in the data space.
• Develop analyses and collaborate with stakeholders to answer critical business questions.
• Create data visualizations and help stakeholders explore BI tools.
