Job summary

ARUP Laboratories, a premier clinical and anatomic pathology reference laboratory based in Salt Lake City, Utah, seeks a Sr. Analytics Engineer.

You will model complex clinical and operational data into data products, work with IT, Medical Directors and Lab Managers, and modernize data ontology across clinical domains. Responsibilities include building scalable data pipelines using dbt and orchestrators like Glue/Airflow, and shaping the data platform roadmap for high-volume analytics in a cloud

Qualifications

• Experience modeling complex clinical/operational data into data products.

• Familiarity with modern analytics tooling and cloud workflows.

Responsibilities

• Apply software engineering best practices to data transformation with dbt and similar frameworks.

• Own ingestion/orchestration frameworks stitching disparate data sources (Glue, Airflow, Dagster).
• Lead modernization of data ontology for clinical/business domains (Lab Ops, Revenue, Genomics, Quality Control).
• Contribute to long-term roadmap for scalable cloud storage and compute.

Primary Purpose

The Sr. Analytics Engineer is responsible for modeling our complex clinical and operational data into data products that capture how a world-class laboratory functions. Works with Information Technology Staff, Medical Directors, and Lab Managers to understand the nuances of our laboratory operations to augment our data model for modern analytics tooling.

Essential Functions

• Apply software engineering best practices (version control, modularity, and automated testing, etc) to our data transformation layer using industry-standard frameworks such as dbt.
• Architect and optimize the query layer to ensure performant analytics across our data lake and warehouse using serverless or managed technologies like Athena, Redshift, or BigQuery.
• Own the ingestion and orchestration frameworks that stitch together disparate clinical data sources using modern tools such as Glue, Airflow, or Dagster.
• Lead the modernization of ARUP’s data ontology for specific clinical and business domains such as Laboratory Operations, Revenue Cycle, Genomics, and Quality Control.
• Contribute to the long-term technical roadmap for our data platform, informing high-level decisions on how to scale cloud-based storage and compute to handle high-volume data.
• Collaborate with leadership to collect requirements and write the code for Secure, Timely, Accurate, Trusted, and Extensible (STATE) data products.
• Other duties as assigned
