Human Research Protections (HRP) Overview:

Within the Office of Research, HRP is responsible for ensuring the ethical and equitable treatment of all human research subjects in studies conducted by UCI faculty, staff, and students that require IRB review. It also ensures compliance with federal regulations, state laws, university policies, and national standards for research involving human participants. HRP staff work directly with IRB reviewers, investigators, and their staff to assist in compliance with IRB requirements for human research applications.

Responsibilities:
  • Under the general direction of the IRB Administrator and Director, provide analytical, technical, and professional support to the human research protections program and the UCI research community.
  • Apply federal, state, and university regulations, policies, and guidelines to promote best practices.
  • Interact with investigators, organizational departments, and occasionally external parties, using tact and independent judgment to resolve research compliance issues.
  • Develop complex memos detailing IRB review decisions and manage protocol review information electronically.
  • This position is primarily remote, with infrequent on-campus work as required.
Qualifications:

Total Compensation: The expected pay range is $77,000 - $92,550 annually. Benefits include medical insurance, sick and vacation leave, retirement plans, and discounts. For more details, visit our benefits page.

Required:

  • Demonstrated self-discipline and independent judgment in completing complex assignments.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant federal, state, and university regulations and policies.
  • Proficiency in public speaking and writing.
  • Strong analytical skills for complex document analysis and workload management.
  • Computer proficiency with advanced retrieval, storage, and merging capabilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, prioritize tasks, and complete routine assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience/training.
  • 3-5 years of experience in human research protections or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of research design, scientific concepts, and terminology.
  • Certified IRB Professional (CIP) certification preferred.
