Shield AI is seeking an Air Vehicle Lead for our Air Force MMA program in San Diego. You will own the aircraft architecture, drive multidisciplinary engineering, and lead the vehicle from requirements to flight test and production.

This highly technical, hands-on leadership role requires making difficult trades, managing risk, and delivering robust solutions with speed. Requirements include a Bachelor's in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering, 15+ years in aircraft development, and experience

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering (Master's preferred).
• 15+ years of relevant aircraft development experience with leadership responsibility.
• Experience leading air vehicle or major aircraft system development through multiple lifecycle phases.
• Broad technical understanding across aerodynamics, structures, propulsion, flight controls, avionics, and vehicle integration.
• Hands-on technical leadership with system-level perspective and fast decision-making.
• Proven track record of high-value risk identification and timely resolution.

Responsabilités

• Own the Air Vehicle architecture, performance, integration, and design integrity across the development lifecycle.
• Provide technical direction across aerodynamics, structures, propulsion, avionics, and other air vehicle disciplines.
• Lead first-principles trades across performance, weight, range, payload, cost, reliability, manufacturability, schedule, and risk.
• Drive design execution from requirements through design, hardware release, build, and test.
• Remain hands-on in design reviews, problem solving, root-cause investigations, and critical decisions.
• Identify critical technical risks and establish engineering rigor balancing analysis, test, schedule, and speed.
• Build a rapid development environment with prototypes, ground and flight tests, and data to reduce risk.
• Oversee interfaces between systems and ensure producibility, cost, reliability, and maintainability.
