Job summary

Maximus is seeking a Lead AI Systems Engineer to design, build, ship, and operate production software systems with AI and ML capabilities. The role emphasizes hands-on development, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement across enterprise and government programs.

You will mentor engineers, drive architectural decisions, and ensure scalable, secure, and observable solutions in a remote setting with global impact.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including production systems.
• 3+ years of experience with AI/ML or related technologies.
• 5+ years designing or building cloud-based solutions.
• Experience owning software through deployment, production operations, and maintenance.
• Strong fundamentals in API design, testing, and secure development.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, ship, and operate production software systems with AI/ML capabilities.
• Own complex technical problems from exploration to deployment and ongoing improvement.
• Write high-quality software, APIs, services, tests, infra, and tooling.
• Build AI-enabled applications integrating models, data, cloud services, and legacy systems.
• Apply automated testing, CI/CD, observability, security, and performance practices.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and design discussions.
