Job summary

General Dynamics Information Technology, Inc. seeks a Senior AI Software Engineer to build advanced AI applications and end-user agents on a federal cloud platform.

You will work with platform, DevOps, and security engineers to deliver secure AI capabilities, focusing on LLMs, RAG, and document processing in a fully remote setting. The role demands hands-on software development, Python expertise, API integration, and containerization, with a path to leadership and technical mentorship.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of professional software engineering, including 1+ year building LLM-based applications.
• 5+ years of AI or ML application development, including 2+ years with LLMs.
• At least one LLM application built and supported in production beyond a simple chat interface.

Responsibilities

• Build and deploy LLM-based applications and agents, including APIs, backend services, tool calling, structured outputs, and multi-step workflows.
• Build RAG and document processing pipelines covering ingestion, embeddings, vector search, and reranking.
• Integrate testing, quality metrics and human review into releases.
• Collaborate with platform and DevOps engineers to run solutions in production using CI/CD and containers.
• Work with security engineers on access control, audit logging, and PII handling for AI actions.
• Produce architecture diagrams, deployment procedures, and runbooks; mentor other engineers.
