Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal AI Software Engineer to advance AI/ML applications onsite in El Segundo or Rancho Bernardo, CA. The role focuses on integrating LLMs, NLP/NLG, and AI-driven decision-making into our software stack, demanding strong communication and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related STEM with 5 years’ experience or Master’s with 3 years’ experience.
• Experience with one or more AI models and algorithms: LLMs, DNN, embedding models, or related tech.
• Experience deploying AI LLM tools such as vLLM, opencode, aider, Azure OpenAI, etc.
• Experience working in large code bases containing multiple languages (monorepos).
• Ability to develop requirements and work with software in integration/verification/testing environments.
• Capability to carry out rapid prototyping and proof-of-concept demonstrations.
• Understanding of software engineering best practices including source control and architecture.
• Must hold an active US Government clearance (with recent background investigation or Continuous Evaluation).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, document, test, debug, and deploy state-of-the-art AI/ML applications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deploy AI/ML solutions in development and production environments.
• Design and develop requirements for software development and software testing environments.
