Job summary

Northrop Grumman in California is seeking a Principal AI Software Engineer to join our Research & Advanced Design / Mission Experience team onsite in El Segundo or Rancho Bernardo, CA.

You will design, develop, test, and deploy AI/ML applications, collaborating with cross-functional teams on NLP, NLU, NLG, sensor/data fusion, and computer vision tasks.

A strong track record, security clearance, and ability to prototype quickly are expected, with competitive compensation and benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS or related STEM with 5 years' experience or Master's with 3 years.
• Experience with AI models/algorithms: LLMs, DNN, embeddings, deep learning.
• Experience with AI LLM tools such as: vLLM, opencode, aider, Azure OpenAI.
• Experience with large code bases containing multiple languages.
• Ability to carry out rapid prototyping and PoC demonstrations.
• Understanding of software engineering best practices including source control and architecture.
• Must have an active US Government clearance.

• Design, develop, document, test, debug, and deploy state-of-the-art AI/ML applications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional team to deploy AI/ML solutions in development and production environments.
• Design and develop requirements for software development and software testing environments.
