Software Engineering Institute | Carnegie Mellon University seeks a Senior AI Security Software Engineer to advance ML-based security solutions for AI systems. You will collaborate with researchers and customers to prototype, deploy, and operationalize AI security tools.

Join a team pushing the boundaries of AI red teaming, adversarial ML, and data-driven cybersecurity, while applying software engineering best practices to scalable systems in support of national security missions.

Qualifications

• BS in computer science, ML, cybersecurity, statistics with 10 years of experience; OR MS with 8 years; OR PhD with 5 years.
• Understanding of software engineering principles and system design.
• Experience with containerization and microservices architectures.
• Willingness to travel to SEI/CMU sites and sponsor locations (about 5%).
• Background check and DoW security clearance required.

Responsibilities

• Develop ML-based prototypes, tools, and systems for AI security applications.
• Collaborate with researchers and stakeholders to design experimental AI security solutions.
• Apply software engineering best practices to build scalable, maintainable systems.
• Process and analyze large cybersecurity datasets (malware, NetFlow, incidents).
• Support AI red teaming and adversarial ML initiatives; translate research to operations.
