Caterpillar Inc. in Chicago seeks a Senior Manager to lead the Advanced Technology Pod within the AI R&D organization.

You will set a bold technical vision for applied AI, shape high-impact opportunities, and deliver production-intent prototypes and reference architectures ready for downstream teams. You will hire and develop a team of senior data scientists and AI engineers, establish engineering standards, and partner with product, software, and external partners such as Microsoft/Azure and

Qualificações

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.
• Experience leading applied AI or AI R&D teams delivering production-intent prototypes and reference architectures.
• Strong command of Python-based ML stacks and modern AI frameworks; modeling standards and experimentation practices.
• Solid statistical foundation for AI experimentation including A/B testing and accuracy evaluation.
• Experience partnering with hyperscaler/hardware partners (AWS, Microsoft Azure, NVIDIA).
• Familiarity with simulation/synthetic environments for AI in physical systems.
• Track record defining reference architectures, evaluation harnesses, and technical playbooks.

Responsabilidades

• Set a bold technical vision for applied AI at Caterpillar and define a portfolio of high-impact initiatives.
• Lead design and delivery of production-intent prototypes and reference architectures for downstream teams.
• Define standards and evaluation criteria to enable productionization of AI R&D work.
• Collaborate with Business POC Pod and Long-Term Research Pod to evolve use cases and novel methods.
• Lead and develop a team of senior data scientists and AI engineers, shaping performance and growth.
