Job summary

Oyster is hiring a Senior AI Engineer to own end-to-end improvements of our AI assistant platform. You will ship LLM-powered capabilities, design robust tool contracts, and improve retrieval/knowledge access while balancing latency, cost, and model quality.

You’ll work across teams to provide guidance, mentor peers, and help scale AI features in a fully remote, async-friendly environment. Ruby on Rails and React experience are a plus.

Qualifications

• Senior-level engineering judgment with production impact.
• Hands-on experience shipping LLM-powered capabilities to production.
• Strong debugging, testing and system design fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• End-to-end AI improvements linking user needs to architecture and rollout.
• Design clear tool contracts with robust error handling.
• Improve knowledge access via retrieval, embedding and indexing.
• Build evaluation loops with datasets and automated checks.
• Diagnose and fix failures in prompts, retrieval, tools and infra.
• Mentor other teams and share reusable AI patterns.
