Job summary

Raymond James, Inc. in Saint Petersburg, FL, is seeking a Lead Engineer to drive the internal AI development platform. You will define the architecture, raise engineering standards, and deliver scalable, secure tools for multiple engineering teams.

You will code, review designs, solve complex challenges, and guide platform strategy in a hybrid work setting with in-office days three per week. A strong background in Python, AI tooling, and cross-platform development is essential.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of senior engineering experience building enterprise-grade software
• At least 2 years hands-on experience with LLMs or AI agent frameworks
• Experience with agentic coding tools and IDEs like VS Code or equivalents
• Strong Python and working knowledge of Node.js and TypeScript
• Experience integrating AI coding tools with external systems and workflows
• Knowledge of multiple LLM providers and provider-agnostic abstractions
• Cross-platform engineering across Windows, macOS, and Linux
• Background in stacks like Python, Java/Spring, Angular, React, .NET, Oracle, Redshift, SQL Server
• Track record shipping infrastructure used by engineers and operating in regulated environments
• Familiarity with SDLC, Agile, CI/CD, observability, and incident response
• Evidence of architectural leadership and mentoring senior engineers
• Active engagement with AI tooling/open-source communities

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve the platform architecture for scalable AI development
• Lead design and code reviews for core platform components
• Build secure sandboxed environments for AI development and testing
• Enhance telemetry, observability, and cost visibility for AI usage
• Collaborate with product leadership on roadmap priorities
• Mentor engineers and drive engineering standards across teams
• Partner with platform users to gather feedback and prioritize investments
