Job summary

WEX is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Semantic Data Team to design, build, and maintain the control plane for semantic data models and AI-native data platforms across core business objects.

You will own governance, lineage, RBAC, observability, and AI-assisted development while delivering scalable, trusted data assets. Join a cross-disciplinary team advancing data intelligence at enterprise scale.

Qualifications

• 4–8 years of experience in data engineering or software engineering focused on data platforms.
• Strong SQL plus Python or Scala proficiency.
• Experience as an AI-native engineer using Claude, Copilot, Cursor, or similar.
• Hands-on with LLM-driven architectures, RAG, LangGraph, CrewAI, and vector/graph DBs.
• Familiarity with prompt design, Spec-Driven Development, and AI-assisted code reviews.
• Deep expertise in orchestration pipelines (Airflow) and data quality (Great Expectations).
• IaC & Platform engineering with Terraform, Kubernetes, and CI/CD.
• Enterprise governance with DataHub, lineage, RBAC; observability tooling (Grafana).
• Self-service tooling and developer portals to empower teams.
• Strong focus on data quality, validation, and rule encoding.

Responsibilities

• Engineer the Operational Backbone: design core Control Plane infrastructure for data lifecycle.
• Shift from reactive to proactive reliability with observability and quality gates.
• Develop self-service portals and golden templates for autonomous data product creation.
• Automate governance: RBAC, data lineage, and PII protection across data objects.
• Build AI-native data architecture supporting context and RAG-based systems.
• Leverage AI tooling to accelerate development while ensuring business-rule alignment.
• Share patterns and workflows for AI tooling across the team.
• Collaborate with domain experts to translate business concepts into frameworks.
• Implement classifications, KPIs, scoring, and business-rule logic with traceability.
• Adhere to data modeling, documentation, and governance standards in semantic layer.
