Job summary

Elevance Health is seeking a Principal Applied Scientist to lead AI/ML strategy and deliver enterprise-scale solutions from concept to production. You will report to senior technical leadership and shape governance, architecture, and deployment practices across business units.

The role requires guiding cross-functional teams, mentoring data scientists and engineers, and driving measurable business value through scalable AI initiatives in a hybrid, in-office model with locations in Walnut Creek

Qualifications

• Requires an MS or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Engineering, Data Science, Economics, or a related quantitative discipline and a minimum of 10 years of experience in ML, data science, AI, analytics, or related fields.
• Experience leading AI/ML initiatives from concept through production deployment is required.
• Experience with Python, ML frameworks, cloud-based AI/ML platforms, MLOps, model deployment, monitoring, lifecycle management, and data systems (structured and unstructured) is required.

Responsibilities

• Defines and drives enterprise AI/ML strategy aligned with priorities.
• Leads design, validation, deployment, monitoring, and improvement of AI/ML solutions.
• Architects scalable end-to-end production systems (training, deployment, monitoring, lifecycle).
• Translates business challenges into scalable AI solutions with measurable outcomes.
• Establishes standards and best practices for AI development and governance.
• Partners with leaders to influence capability roadmaps and value delivery.
• Mentors data scientists, ML engineers, researchers, and technical leaders.
