Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a highly motivated Software Engineer (AI/ML Ops) to join our Automation Team. You will embed value-add AI in manufacturing systems, deploying ML models across automation products, and collaborating with data scientists and engineers.

The role emphasizes scalable data processing, model training, and production monitoring, with a focus on security, latency reduction, and continuous improvement in a culture of safety and inclusion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of professional software development experience with ML deployments.
• Experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch or similar.
• Familiarity with manufacturing automation including robotics, PLCs, NDT, and machine vision.
• Experience with AI edge deployments and OT devices (e.g. Simatic NPU).
• Experience with serverless computing frameworks.
• Familiarity with agile and Scrum environments.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL (PostgreSQL, MongoDB).

Responsibilities

• Work directly with the automation engineering team to deploy machine learning models into automation products.
• Complete the operational aspects of AI/ML projects with robust, scalable deployment.
• Build and maintain infrastructure for data processing, model training, and inference at scale.
• Set up monitoring systems to ensure performance, reliability, and scalability in production.
• Automate the end-to-end ML pipeline from data collection to deployment and monitoring.
• Collaborate with data scientists, data engineers, and software engineers to streamline production workflows.
• Ensure AI/ML systems comply with security standards and data privacy.
• Perform performance tuning and optimize latency.
• Evaluate and integrate tools/frameworks like MLflow, Kubeflow, TensorFlow Extended.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of processes and performance metrics.
• Plan and implement strategies for scaling AI/ML models to meet demand.
