Job summary

Capital One is seeking an AI Engineer 5 (AI Foundations) to design, build, and optimize AI systems at scale. You will collaborate with engineers, researchers, and product partners to deliver production-ready AI components, including foundation model training, inference, and multi-model orchestration.

This role requires strong Python/Java/CUDA experience, a solid math/engineering foundation, and familiarity with PyTorch, HuggingFace, and vector databases.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field with years of AI/ML experience
• At least 6 years of experience programming with Python, Go, Scala, CUDA, or Java

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components
• Leverage Open Source and SaaS AI technologies (AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, PyTorch)
• Invent and optimize foundation model techniques for performance, cost, latency
• Contribute to technical vision and long-term roadmap for AI systems
• Design and optimize multi-model orchestration pipelines
• Establish cost-performance governance reviews and monitor GPU utilization
• Lead design councils to ensure technical consistency and AI engineering standards
• Mentor senior AI engineers to raise technical maturity
