Job summary

Aptima is seeking a Senior AI Engineer – Human–AI Systems to lead design and execution of AI-enabled systems that fuse human cognition and team dynamics with machine intelligence for DoW applications. You will serve as a technical lead on multidisciplinary programs, coordinating AI engineers and researchers to deliver human-centered capabilities and rigorous evaluation.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in cognitive psychology, human factors or AI/CS related field.
• Strong background in human–AI interaction and team dynamics.
• Experience with experimental design and statistical analysis.
• Experience leading government-funded programs.
• Ability to obtain security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead design of human–AI teaming concepts, interaction workflows, and mixed-initiative system behaviors for DoW applications.
• Coordinate work across AI engineers and researchers to deliver integrated AI solutions.
• Translate mission needs into system requirements, technical architectures, and evaluation plans; ensure usability and explainability.
• Design and execute human-subject experiments to evaluate trust, workload, and decision quality.
• Develop analytic pipelines and metrics for behavioral constructs using real-world data.
• Present technical work to internal teams, customer engagements, and external forums.
