We are a leading recruiting agency representing a fast-growing, mission-driven software company at the forefront of life sciences communication. Our client is building category-defining software that empowers scientists and researchers to visualize complex biological concepts. Now, they are expanding their focus to integrate AI into their core product experience—and they’re looking for a seasoned AI Engineer to help lead this effort.
This is a rare opportunity to shape the AI strategy at an organization that is already a trusted tool across the biomedical community. You'll be joining a cross-functional, product-driven engineering culture that values innovation, learning, and real impact.
As an AI Engineer, you'll collaborate across engineering and product teams to identify high-impact opportunities for AI integration and own the implementation of those solutions from strategy to execution.
Key responsibilities include:
Architecting and integrating AI features across the product using modern JavaScript and Python
Evaluating and applying large language models (LLMs) and open-source AI tools to improve product workflows
Driving AI initiatives that go beyond basic coding assistants—focusing instead on creative, impactful use cases that provide genuine customer value
Leading cross-functional efforts to prototype, validate, and scale AI-powered features
Contributing to system architecture and ensuring AI implementations are cohesive with existing infrastructure
Mentoring engineers on best practices in applied AI and fostering a culture of innovation
7–12 years of software engineering experience, including full-stack development
Strong experience working on production applications, ideally in user-facing environments
Demonstrated history of integrating AI/LLM solutions into real-world products, not just internal tooling
Comfortable translating business needs into AI-enhanced technical solutions
Background as a software engineer first, with AI/ML expertise added through professional experience
Product-first mindset, able to balance user experience, performance, and innovation
Master’s or PhD in Computer Science (required)
Experience at high-growth software companies where engineers were responsible for core product development
Hands-on experience with OpenAI APIs, Hugging Face models, or similar services
Familiarity with AWS infrastructure
Ability to prototype and deploy across multiple technical domains with minimal ramp-up
Salary Range: $170,000 – $200,000 USD annually
Equity: Available and competitive
Work Policy: Remote (North American working hours preferred)
Visa Sponsorship: Not available
Employment Type: Full-time
Start Date: ASAP
Innovative Mission: Help build the first visual language of biology and redefine how scientists communicate complex ideas
AI-Driven Impact: Directly shape the AI product roadmap, not just internal tools
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with design, product, and engineering leaders to drive real outcomes
Mentorship & Leadership: Lead initiatives and mentor teammates on applied AI best practices
Career Acceleration: High-visibility role with opportunity to become a foundational voice in the company’s AI journey
