Job summary

Morningstar is seeking a software engineer to architect and optimize Python-based applications and AI-enabled platforms. You will design API services (FastAPI/Flask), manage relational and vector databases (PostgreSQL, Weaviate, Pinecone), and advance ML/NLP workflows with governance in mind.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, contribute to design reviews, and help scale cloud-native deployments while maintaining maintainable, well-documented codebases.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field with 5 years of experience or Master's with 3 years of experience.
• Experience with SQL Server/PostgreSQL and data modeling including migrations.
• Proficient in Python development, API design, and data processing with pandas/plotly.
• Exposure to NLP, embeddings, retrieval augmented generation, and AI governance.

Responsibilities

• Architect Python-based applications and RESTful services, including asynchronous patterns and cloud-native deployment.
• Design and optimize relational and vector databases for data processing and analysis.
• Drive AI security, governance, and responsible AI practices across platforms.
• Lead research and review of AI-driven enterprise platforms and document architectural guidelines.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align AI strategy with business needs.
