Job summary

EY is seeking an AI Systems Engineer to own the stateful backbone of the AI-native platform, ensuring durable, high-performance access to data across cloud, on-prem, edge, and air-gapped environments. You’ll manage relational, vector, graph, and object stores, plus streaming and change-data pipelines.

The role emphasizes durability, cross-environment consistency, and multi-tenant design, with a strong focus on governance, automation, and scalable data architectures across EY’s Hybrid AI Runtime.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 8+ years operating production data infrastructure or streaming systems at scale.
• Hands-on with PostgreSQL and caching (Redis/Valkey), including high availability and backup/recovery.
• Exposure to AI/ML data patterns — embeddings, retrieval, state stores.
• Experience with vector/graph databases (Qdrant, Milvus, PGVector, Neo4j) in AI contexts.
• Deep experience with event streaming and messaging (Kafka/Strimzi, NATS) and CDC (Debezium).
• Experience with stream processing (Flink) and governance (CloudEvents, schema registry).
• Stateful systems on Kubernetes (operators, persistent volumes, MinIO/OpenEBS).
• Ability to define clear ownership boundaries and data contracts.

Responsibilities

• Own memory and data stores: relational and durable state, caching, vector and graph stores, and object storage across environments.
• Own event streaming and async messaging (Kafka, NATS, Debezium, Flink, CloudEvents).
• Ensure data durability, consistency, recoverability, and cross-environment data movement with defined RPO/RTO.
• Build and operate streaming and CDC pipelines with schema governance to prevent breaking changes.
• Make state multi-tenant and portable with isolation and consistent semantics across clouds and air-gapped environments.
• Provide data and lineage substrate for governance, observability, and AI knowledge capabilities.
