Job summary

WEX Inc. seeks a Senior AI Data & Database Engineer to modernize SQL Server systems and build data infrastructure for AI apps. This hands-on role spans database modernization, performance tuning, data pipelines, and AI-native retrieval services.

You’ll design embedding pipelines, vector storage, RAG retrieval, and resilient data pipelines, while ensuring data integrity and scalable architecture. Collaboration with AI/ML engineers is required to accelerate AI tooling across platforms.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on SQL Server and T-SQL experience.
• Experience modernizing legacy database systems.
• Experience with data pipelines and API integration.
• Familiarity with vector databases and AI data pipelines.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and Terraform.

Responsibilities

• Analyze complex SQL Server procedures to identify logic and data access patterns.
• Refactor procedures to move logic into services and improve maintainability.
• Design and execute migrations with data integrity and backward compatibility.
• Optimize queries and design indexing for high-volume workloads.
• Implement event-driven patterns like CDC and outbox.
• Build automated tests and validation for changes and migrations.
• Create AI-consumable docs including schemas, dependencies, and context.
• Build embedding pipelines and vector storage for AI applications.
• Develop retrieval APIs and services consumed by AI agents.
• Collaborate with AI/ML engineers to improve embedding strategies.
• Design data pipelines across SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, and cloud services.
